Google releases ‘Frankenstorm’ crisis map ahead of Hurricane Sandy’s arrival
As the Hurricane Sandy makes its way up the Eastern Seaboard, Google users will be able to keep track of the storm and its effects in real-time.
Google’s “Crisis Response” project, which went into effect following Hurricane Katrina in 2005, will allow users to access visualized data from the National Hurricane Center, U.S. Naval Research Laboratory, Weather.com, Weather.gov and Earthquake.usg.gov — all combined with a Google map.
In addition to the weather, the map also includes public alerts, active emergency shelters and disaster recovery centers.
Crisis Response is a project of Google’s philanthropic arm, Google.org.
