The Good Wife spin-off bosses address Julianna Margulies appearance

Elsbeth creators Robert and Michelle King have addressed the potential for The Good Wife star Julianna Margulies to make an appearance in the show.

The latest Good Wife spin-off premiered this week and included some references to some of the franchise's past characters.

There was a nod to Matt Czuchry's Good Wife character Cary Agos originally being up for Elsbeth Tascioni's current job as an NYPD observer — and it has previously been revealed that Margulies's Alicia Florrick is now in New York too after moving from Chicago.

Despite those Easter eggs, the Kings have cast some doubt on any characters from The Good Wife appearing in Elsbeth while speaking to TVLine.

"We think about our friends in Chicago, but it's not our expectation that they're traveling to New York anytime soon,” Michelle King said.

“Elsbeth is on her own in New York, which is kind of part of the fun, that she's enjoying it and enjoying it on her own.”

Series star Carrie Preston suggested that their reluctance to introduce any Good Wife characters is rooted in a desire for Elsbeth to succeed on its own merit.

"This is decidedly not The Good Wife, not The Good Fight. It's its own world. It's lighter, it's comedic in nature,” Preston said.

“You've got this Case of the Week, and it's dealing with crime and not politics. So we have a bunch of different new things. So it's the same woman, but you don't have to have watched those shows to dive into this show.”

Elsbeth airs on Thursdays on CBS. A UK airdate has yet to be announced for the series.
