GOOD NEWS: Midland College student designs commemorative 2023 MC Graduation cup

Apr. 17—MIDLAND — Early College High School at Midland College ([email protected]) student Alejandro de la Rosa is the winner of the 2023 MC Graduation Cup Design Contest. He wins a $500 scholarship toward Midland College summer session classes for his winning concept.

"This year, we wanted to have a cup available in the Chap Center concession stands during the graduation ceremony that graduating students and their families could keep as a souvenir of the event," Sarah Anderson, coordinator of operations at the Al G. Langford Chaparral Center, said. "The judges thought that Alejandro's design conveyed the celebratory theme of graduation and aligned with Midland College branding."

De la Rosa is a senior [email protected] student and in addition to graduating from high school this year, he will also receive an Associate of Science degree from Midland College. He said that he will use the $500 summer session scholarship to take a child psychology class before he attends Angelo State University in August where he plans to major in Math. His ultimate goal is to teach secondary math courses.

Born in Chihuahua City, Mexico, de la Rosa moved to South Carolina as a small child and has lived in Midland for five years. In his spare time, he volunteers at Midland Community Theatre, and later this month he will appear in the ensemble cast of Midland Community Theatre's production of Rock of Ages.

The commemorative 2023 MC Graduation cup will be available in the Chaparral Center concession stands with the purchase of a drink on the evening of Midland College's graduation, May 12.
