Apr. 17—Longtime broadcaster (and former coach) Bill Raftery made the trip to Gordyville USA on Tuesday for Illinois' 10th annual Kickin' Cancer event in support of Coaches vs. Cancer. So did Oakland coach Greg Kampe. And former Big Ten official Bo Boroski. Here's why they showed up to support Illini coach Brad Underwood's annual event ...

Bill Raftery

"I've been at a bunch of them over the years. The last one was Kansas the year before. It's something that these coaches give back, and it's nice we can blend in and help for this cause that obviously resonates with almost every family."

Greg Kampe

"This is one of my charities. We do a lot back in Detroit for it. I have an event myself. We all kind of just help each other out. Brad called and said, 'Would you come?' I didn't know it was going on. I just said, 'Of course I'll be there,' because that's what we're supposed to do."

Bo Boroski

"When Coach Underwood called he was very kind for the first time ever over the phone. He told me what the mission was. I was aware of the event and was tickled pink that he asked me to be a part of it. We all know somebody who was affected by cancer. It was a no brainer. I committed right away and then checked my schedule."
