“Are you gonna call me a sick fuck?”: Sen. John Kennedy grills professor about alleged retweets criticizing senators.
Sen. John Kennedy on Wednesday grilled a climate professor during a hearing, claimed he retweeted climate activists who criticized senators, and asked him whether he would call Kennedy “a sick fuck.”
Kennedy, a Republican senator from Louisiana, claimed Dr. Geoffrey Supran retweeted a tweet in which climate activists called Sen. Joe Manchin a “sick fuck.”
Supran: “These are not my tweets. These are retweets. It's an important distinction.”
Kennedy: “Oh, you often retweet stuff you don't support? Is that what you're telling me, doc?”
Supran: “I did not say that I don't support this. I simply did not tweet it, as you were alleging.”
Kennedy: “But you retweeted it, didn't you?”
Supran: “I'd like to make very clear that this form of character assassination is characteristic of the propaganda techniques of the fossil fuel industry.”
Kennedy: “Are you gonna call me a sick fuck?”
Kennedy was then cut off so Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-OR) could begin his speaking time.
