Gold Stirrup Horse Show held at Rodeo Austin, Matthew Wright wins gold belt buckle

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Dozens of riders took part in the Gold Stirrup Horse Show on Sunday out at the Travis County Expo Center.

Riders took part in Trail, Showmanship at Halter, Western Pleasure/Equitation, English Pleasure/Equitation and Barrels, all competing for fun and a Golden Belt Buckle.

“It means a lot for me to be out here and also be competing in the Special Olympics Texas Gold Stirrup Rodeo this morning and I love riding horses and I encourage people to be involved in it,” said rider Matthew Wright.

Wright competed in multiple events and ended up taking home first place in English Pleasure/Equitation Class.

“Rodeo Austin, welcome to the show!” said Wright, when asked if he had anything to say to his fans.

Wright is no stranger to winning big, he won the Special Olympics North American Golf Championship in New Jersey last year, he was later recognized at the capital for that victory.

The Gold Stirrup Horse Show is for riders with special needs, allowing individuals to compete for recognition, prizes, high point titles according to the Rodeo Austin website.
