Gold, Maroon + Bourbon: A Winning Wedding Trio
Sometimes I fall in love with a wedding because of the big things: the colors, the overall design, the love story. And believe me, this wedding here has it all (this maroon is making me melt). But other times it's the little details that win me over - and the gold foil and little bits of bourbon throughout this Midwest wedding did just that. From the Bride... We met at Virginia Tech when we were sophomores and were really good friends throughout college. I stayed at Virginia Tech an extra year so he graduated and moved to Cincinnati the year before me. When I moved out to Cincinnati, it was really exciting to have a friend in an unfamiliar place and the rest is history! From Five Dot Design... The venue was key inspiration for the paper design. The invitations were letterpressed with charcoal gray ink on cotton paper and each invitation was detailed with hand-applied gold leaf - no two were the same. This allowed for a very sophisticated look while adding a bit of texture and shine. We paired these with burgundy envelopes with gold foil addressing and gold calligraphy. The table numbers, programs, seating chart and place cards were all adorned with the hand-applied gold leaf to incorporate that old world charm into all the paper goods. The venue has a warm, European feel with chipped plaster and textured walls that have been so beautifully restored. The bride knew a deep burgundy paired with gold accents would not only complement the venue, but provide lots of opportunities with the decor. Susan Foy was able to work with this palette beautifully, incorporating deep reds, burnt oranges and soft pinks for contrast. With Kentucky just a five minute trip over the river from Cincinnati, the couple has a love for bourbon. They were able to sneak in a few details without the wedding feeling overly rustic; Andrew's cuff links were cut from old bourbon barrels, they named each table after a favorite distillery, Woodford Reserve bourbon balls and copper mule mugs were given as favors and barrel stave candle holders that Andrew made for the tables. The perfect complement to both the venue and the couple.
