GoFundMe created to support family of 16-year-old who drowned in Columbia County

The family of a 16-year-old boy who died after drowning on Labor Day at Pointes West Army Resort in Columbia County has created a GoFundMe to raise money for funeral expenses.

Se’Vonn Christian Small was swimming with his 21-year-old sister and another person when he went under the water and did not resurface, according to previous reporting.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office Boat Team and Columbia County Fire Department Dive Team responded to scene, but Small's body was found at about 3:30 p.m. in 7 feet of water, according to officials. Small's sister was transported to the hospital for water inhalation.

The GoFundMe noted that Small's sister "is still on her way to recovery from her drowning" as the family mourns the loss of her brother.

Small is being remembered as "an astute young man full of goals and dreams," according to the site.

The GoFundMe has raised more than $7,400, as of Friday morning. The goal is listed at $40,000, according to the site.

The Columbia County Sheriff's Office and Georgia Department of Natural Resources are continuing with the investigation, but the sheriff's office said the drowning death appears to be accidental.

Fort Gordon confirmed Small was a family member of a military retiree who was visiting the Fort Gordon MWR, Pointes West Army Resort. The retiree does not work on Fort Gordon, according to officials.
