NEW YORK (PIX11) — A GoFundMe has been started for Jonathan Diller, the NYPD officer who was shot and killed in Queens Monday evening.

Diller, 31, was a husband and a father to a young child. His death was described as a “senseless act of violence,” and Mayor Eric Adams called him a hero.

“We lost Jonathan tonight. And Stephanie, his wife, I was speaking with her, was extremely impactful,” Adams said during a briefing at the hospital Monday night.

Funeral set for fallen NYPD cop Jonathan Diller: ‘Our hero police officer’

The funeral service for Diller will be held at Saint Rose of Lima R.C. Church in Massapequa at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday. Diller will be interred at Saint Charles Cemetery in Farmingdale.

Visitations will be held multiple times on Thursday and Friday before the funeral. They will take place at Massapequa Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on both days.

“Our hero police officer confronted this dangerous individual knowing that he was putting himself at risk, knowing that he had a family waiting for him at home. But he did it to protect the people of this city, and we need every single New Yorker to be with this family,” said New York City Police Benevolent Association President Patrick Hendry.

Diller was shot while conducting a traffic stop for a vehicle that was illegally parked at a bus stop in Far Rockaway, Queens around 5:50 p.m., police said. The passenger, Guy Rivera, was ordered to exit the vehicle, but police said he opened fire on Diller instead. He was rushed to a hospital but could not be saved.

Another officer who was with Diller shot Rivera in the back, police said. Rivera remained hospitalized Tuesday and charges were expected to be filed.

Diller is the first NYPD officer to be killed in the line of duty since 2022 when officers Wilbert Mora and Jason Rivera were ambushed and killed in Harlem.
