‘GMA’ Makes Shonda Rhimes ‘Spit Out’ Her Coffee After Erroneous ‘Scandal’ Report

“Good Morning America” apparently made Shonda Rhimes “spit out” her coffee Wednesday morning.

“GMA” correspondent Lara Spencer misquoted the Shondaland creator, and said the upcoming season of “Scandal” would be the ABC drama’s last. Rhimes immediately hopped on Twitter to set the record straight.

“Whoa, GMA: I never said this was the final season of #scandal,” she tweeted. “Way to make me spit out my coffee!”

Spencer avoided a scandal of her own and apologized for her mistake a little later on air during the morning show.

“Hey, during Pop News, we said that this was the last season of ‘Scandal.’ Shonda has weighed in, she just tweeted, and she said we made her spit out her coffee. My apologies,” Spencer said. “She said she has an ending in mind, but that ending is not happening this next season. So thank you Shonda. Yes, we can all breathe, because as you guys know, it is my absolute favorite show.”

“So correction, ending in mind, but when that ending is happening we don’t know. So, to be continued on the ‘Scandal’ scandal. More ‘Scandal,'” Spencer continued. “So thank you Shonda, I’m sorry I made you spit out your coffee.”

They even made up on Twitter. See their exchange below.

“Scandal” has been on for five seasons and was recently renewed for a sixth season back in March.
