Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park caves and Iron Mountain Hot Springs recognized

GLENWOOD SPRINGS, Colo. (KREX) — The U.S. Department of the Interior recently listed the Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park caves and Iron Mountain Hot Springs as a National Natural Landmark.

The landmarks were chosen because of their outstanding condition, illustrative character, rarity, diversity and value to science and education.

General Manager Nancy Heard explained to WesternSlopeNow how they were able to receive this distinction.

“The Glenwood Caverns, as well as the Iron Mountain Hot Springs, both of our properties, received that designation. It was a 10-year-long process. We applied over 10 years ago for this. Both of them were recognized for geological wonders and unique species.”

Sen. Michael Bennet commented on the caves and hot springs being added to the list saying that “they are iconic Colorado treasures and that he appreciates the ongoing efforts to preserve these valuable resources for future generations.”
