Glascock voters unseat incumbent commission chair, reelect sheriff

In all, 1,017 or 50.12 percent of Glascock County’s 2,029 total registered voters turned out for the May 21 primaries unseating the current County Commission Chair and reelecting Sheriff Jeremy Kelley.

John “Ant” Griswell (Rep) took Republican nomination for the Glascock Commission chairman seat with 562 votes to incumbent Lori Todd Boyen’s 387. In November’s general election Griswell will face off against Greg Johnson, the sole Democratic candidate.

William Billy Wasden (Rep) won the Glascock County Commission District 1 Gibson seat, receiving 538 votes to his opponent Lynn Kent’s (Rep) 396.

Incumbent Jeremy Kelley (Rep) will retain his position as Glascock County Sheriff as he received 505 votes to challenger Don Hilson’s (Rep) 469.

In the race for the Democratic nomination to run against incumbent US House of Representatives Dist. 12 Representative Rick W. Allen, Glascock voters carried Elizabeth “Liz” Johnson over Daniel “DJ” Jackson, 17 votes to 9. District wide Johnson received the most votes, 23,388 (or 58.9 percent of the total) to Jackson's 16,306, earning Johnson the right to appear on the ballot against Allen in November.

Unopposed in the primary were incumbent State Senator for Dist. 23 Max Burns (Rep.) as well as his Democrat opposition this Fall, Shayna Boston; incumbent State House of Representatives Dist. 128 Mack Jackson (Dem) as well as his Republican opposition this Fall Tracy Wheeler; incumbent Toombs Judicial Circuit District Attorney Bill Doupe (Dem); incumbent Glascock County Clerk of Superior Court Kristie Stephens (Rep); incumbent Tax Commissioner Sharon Swint Lyons (Rep); incumbent Coroner Connie Kitchens-Jackson (Rep); County Commission Dist. 3 Mitchell Commissioner Charles C. Roberts Jr.; incumbent Judge of Probate Court Johnny Pearson; incumbent County Board of Education at-large member James V. Stephens Jr.; County Board of Education Dist. 1 Gibson member Jason Williford; and County Board of Education Dist. 2 Mill member Matt Milburn.
