GJHS Academic Team secures second consecutive State Knowledge Bowl win

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) — Grand Junction High School’s Academic Team won the State Knowledge Bowl for the 26th time this year.

GJHS placed first in the 4A classification and won the Governor’s Cup for the 21st time — an award given to the best team in the state regardless of classification. 60 teams around the state participated in the tournament.

This tournament is no walk in the park. Every team here had to win a tournament or score ridiculously high at one of nine regional tournaments. I’m so proud of our team.

Head coach Coady Shawcroft

The team consisted of 10 students: captain Sam Guddat, Alexander Chang, Jamison Whiteford, Maddie Kawasaki, Logan Jochim, Macy McComb, Stewart Collins, Brendan Schwarz, Neil Scott and Erik TerLouw.

Guddat, when asked about the team’s chances of winning again next year, said, “We have a strong group coming up. I like their chances.”
