Girls basketball roundup: Yale wins first district championship since 1994

Here are some notable results from Saturday's girls basketball district finals in the Blue Water Area.

Yale 45, Caro 40

The Bulldogs' 29-year wait is over.

Sadie Dykstra posted a 20-point, 13-rebound double-double for Yale, which improved to 16-9 overall and won its first district championship since 1994. Abbi Dykstra contributed 11 points and three steals while Alyssa Barr added 11 rebounds.

"The girls played a complete game," Yale coach Bryan Goulding said in an email. "They stepped up at the end of the game to close it out and seal the win for us. They played extremely hard and as their coach I couldn't be prouder."

Caro, which finished the season at 20-5, was led by Adelyn Moore's 19 points. Alexa Long followed with 11.

The Bulldogs will return home to face Goodrich in a Division 2 regional semifinal on Tuesday. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Sandusky 49, Memphis 25

Make it eight straight victories for the Wolves. But more importantly, make it two straight district titles as well.

Grace Guibord led the charge with 17 points, four rebounds and three steals for Sandusky, which improved to 21-3.

Helena Long amassed eight points, five boards and three blocks while Brooke Jansen totaled six points, 10 rebounds and three assists. In total, 10 different players scored for the Wolves.

As for the Yellowjackets, they finished the season at 7-16 overall.

Up next for Sandusky is a Division 3 regional semifinal at home against Otisville LakeVille Memorial on Tuesday. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Kingston 55, Marlette 30

The Red Raiders fell behind early and couldn't recover.

Olivia Findlay scored a team-high 10 points for Marlette, which finished the season at 16-7 overall. She also had six rebounds and three assists.

Dalaney Gage chipped in seven points, six rebounds and two assists. Hollie Hartwell added six points, six boards and one steal.
