SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — In honor of International Women’s Day, Girl Scouts San Diego celebrated female leadership Thursday afternoon in an event with community partners and key stakeholders.

More than 75 guests attended the event Thursday at the Girl Scouts San Diego Balboa Campus to discuss the organization’s new strategic plan for the next three to five years.

Girl Scouts were told to stop bracelet-making fundraiser for kids in Gaza. Now they can’t keep up

“Girl Scouts San Diego helps me become a leader by giving me skills to develop as a girl scout with courage, conviction, compassion and character,” said Jumana S. of Troop 4988.

Key speakers included Senate President pro Tempore Emeritus Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), Inez Gonzalez Perezchica, the executive director of MANA de San Diego, and Carol Dedrich, the CEO of Girl Scouts San Diego.

“Women are natural leaders so it’s important that we continue to support and empower young girls and women to play that role, to step into it with intention,” State Senator Atkins said.

According to Girl Scouts San Diego, its vision is “to be viewed and valued as the go-to partner for developing and elevating girl and women leaders in San Diego and Imperial counties.”
