Girl Scouts Roll Out 30 New Badges, Including Cybersecurity and Robotics
Girls Scouts of the USA has launched 30 new badges, including space exploration and robotics.
The new badges, which rolled out Tuesday, will focus on some of society’s most pressing needs, such as cybersecurity, mechanical engineering and environmental stewardship.
The organization has focused on environmental issues since it was established in 1912, but that this new collection of badges will stand out by teaching girls how to “address problems, find solutions, and protect the natural world,” GSUSA said in a statement.
The 30 new badges will be available for girls ages 5 through 18.
GSUSA CEO Sylvia Acevedo noted the lack of women in leadership in the U.S. and said the organization is in a unique position to address the situation.
“Whether they are fighting cybercrime, exploring how engineers solve problems or advocating for issues affecting their community, Girl Scouts are learning how to proactively address some of the foremost challenges of today while also building skills that will set them up for a lifetime of leadership,” Acevedo said in a statement.
