What should have been a fun trip to her grandmother’s house turned into a nightmare when Ahniah was attacked by the family’s dog.

The 11-year-old was getting ready for bed when the family’s pit bull attacked her seemingly out of nowhere. A portion of her face was ripped open and she was rushed to the hospital. Ahniah received 130 stitches from her nose to her cheek.

“It was every mother, every parent’s, worse nightmare,” her mother Angela says of seeing her daughter after the attack. Following her release from the hospital, her family covered all the mirrors in their home as they did not want Ahniah to see herself. When she first did finally see her face, a crushed Ahniah said, “I look like a monster.” Life after the incident has been challenging for the brave 11-year-old as she is continually teased at school for the scars on her face.

“I just want her to have a normal life, life every kid deserves,” her mother tells The Doctors.

After meeting with plastic surgeon Dr. Andrew Ordon, Ahniah joins the panel to find out of there is any hope of possibly correcting some of her severe facial scarring.

“[Ahniah’s injures] are some of the most difficult injuries to treat… there are a number of big challenges,” Dr. Ordon says. “But, I feel there is a lot of room for improvement… it’s not going to happen overnight, but we will definitely make things better.”
