Girl killed, man injured after being shot at Virginia Beach’s Mount Trashmore Park

VIRGINIA BEACH — A girl was killed and a man injured after being shot Saturday night at the city’s Mount Trashmore Park.

The incident happened about 8:30 p.m., near a summer carnival area that began operating at the park Friday evening, according to police. No age was provided for either victim, nor was any information about the seriousness of the man’s injuries.

Police officers and paramedics were close by, and were able to get to the victims quickly, and start searching for suspects, police said. Both victims were taken to a hospital for treatment, but the girl was later pronounced dead.

“This is a chaotic scene which will some time to investigate,” a police spokeswoman said in an email to The Virginian-Pilot. “As we know more we will update.”

The spokeswoman said late Saturday night that she didn’t yet have any information about the man’s condition. She also said officers were still working to identify the victims and determine their correct ages.
