‘You go girl.” Kent State grad gets national attention for viral gun-toting photos

“Freedom is a good thing.” “I might have chosen a different venue.” Kaitlin Bennett causes a social media uproar with controversial graduation photos. Thousands of Newsroom commenters chime in, with a majority applauding her bold statement. Bennett, a 22-year-old Kent State graduate, shared pictures of herself on campus with an AR-10 slung over her shoulder and holding a graduation cap bearing the words "come and take it." She captioned one of the photos: “Now that I graduated from @KentState, I can finally arm myself on campus. I should have been able to do so as a student — especially since 4 unarmed students were shot and killed by the government on this campus." Newsroom readers are voicing their opinions: “Good for her. I support her 1000 percent.” Another commenter wrote, “When you beg for attention you can’t be shocked that some of it is negative.” Bennett defended herself, saying she posted the photos because she “wanted to take a jab at the insulting policies Kent State has regarding arming their students.” The university doesn’t allow students, staff, or third parties doing business with Kent State possess deadly weapons.
