BROOKLYN, N.Y. (PIX11) — A 13-year-old girl allegedly shot her brother, 11, while showing off her gun in the stairwell of a Brooklyn NYCHA complex last week, police said Tuesday.

The siblings cut school on the day of the eclipse and were hanging out in the stairwell between the third and fourth floors in the Ocean Hill-Brownsville Houses at 324 Howard Ave. when Demetrius Gordon was shot at around 11 p.m., according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joe Kenny.

“She begins to show off her gun, showing everybody how she can hide it in the plan of her hands. That gun goes off,” Kenny said.

The bullet broke Gordon’s left forearm. He was treated at the hospital after an 18-year-old neighbor wrapped a sweater around his injury.

The boy initially told investigators he was shot by a man in a hoodie outside the complex, Kenny said.

The sister was arrested a couple of days later and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, authorities said. The gun was recovered.

It was unclear how the teen got the gun, Kenny said. The parents have not been charged.
