Gilbert police were investigating a murder-suicide after finding two people dead in a residence Monday.

Gilbert police spokesperson Officer Levi Leyba said officers were investigating the scene as of 9:14 a.m. at the home near the southwest corner of Val Vista Drive and Ray Road.

Police said that around midnight they responded to the area after receiving reports of a suicide and found a 40-year-old man and a 28-year-old woman, police said in an afternoon statement.

The names of the victims and additional details surrounding the shooting were not released by police.

Police said "preliminary information" indicated this was a murder-suicide, but an investigation remained ongoing.
