The Secret Reason Gigi Hadid's Met Gala Mani Cost $2,000

Celebrities are known to spend a pretty penny on all things beauty, and some things even seem justifiable (hey, if you’ve got the money for it, why not?), but Gigi Hadid’s latest beauty buy is truly one for the books.

Hadid — who made her red carpet debut with boyfriend Zayn Malik at the Met Gala on Monday evening — was sporting a metallic manicure that cost a whopping $2,000.

How could a manicure ever cost that much, you ask? Well, her sharp-edged tips were made of pure chrome and embellished with crystals placed carefully on the underside of each nail.

Celebrity manicurist Mar y Soul created the statement nails just for the event. “I collaborated with Kiss Products to create custom, elegant almond-shaped, chromed-out nails with a hidden detail: crystals,” she explains. “Underneath each nail, I added three crystals for an element of surprise and to ensure her nails look flawless no matter what angle.”

Since Hadid was wearing a studded, metallic Tommy Hilfiger dress, the chrome nails were the perfect choice to accentuate her overall look. Now that we know what it takes to create such a cool nail look, we can see why they were so expensive. However, it’s still quite the exorbitant beauty buy, even for a celeb (although Gigi didn’t have to actually pay for the tips herself; they were simply loaned to her for the night).

If you want to create a similar look for less (and we definitely advise that you do), apply a coat of sliver polish on your nails and pop a few of the Kiss Real Crystals ($4; pictured above) on the underside of each nail. If your nails aren’t naturally long enough to add the crystals, first place them on press-on nails so the crystals will have an area to adhere to.
