When they are not on the gridiron, the New York Giants are very busy in the community.

The Giants partnered with supermarket chain Stop & Shop for a food drive last week during last week’s game against the Chicago Bears. All proceeds went to the Food Bank For New York City. The Food Bank For New York City is the city’s major hunger-relief organization working throughout the five boroughs. They provide one in five New Yorkers with food and other resources.

Defensive linemen Jason Pierre-Paul and Jay Bromley along with former Giant and current Seattle Seahawks defensive end Damontre Moore volunteered at the Food Bank For New York City’s Community Kitchen in West Harlem. The players unloaded a tractor trailer with over 100 turkeys and helped serve meals to over 600 people.

The team also volunteered at the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, the largest food bank in the Garden State. The Community Food Bank helps feed 1.1 million people, including 340,000 children.

Long snapper Zak DeOssie, linebackers Jonathan Casillas and Kelvin Sheppard, punter Brad Wing, kicker Robbie Gould, cornerback Trevin Wade and defensive tackle Robert Thomas helped unload 1,500 turkeys, which were all donated by Stop & Shop. The food will be sent to pantries, shelters and soup kitchens throughout New Jersey.

“Hunger is a huge issue and especially at this time of the year. It’s important to give back,” DeOssie said.

The Giants also volunteered at Eva’s Community Kitchen in Paterson, N.J. Eva’s has been feeding the hungry since 1982. Eva’s Community Kitchen is open every day year-round, serving breakfast and lunch for up to 400 people a day. Giants rookies Eli Apple, Sterling Shepard, and Paul Perkins stopped by to volunteer inside the kitchen. They helped prepare the meal service and serve lunch to the guests.

Eva’s Community Kitchen has become an annual destination for Giants rookie players to go and serve the homeless and sign autographs while sharing a few laughs along the way.
