The play came in the second period with Latvia on the power play. Latvian forward Kaspars Daugavins tried to sneak the rebound home over the outstretched Grubauer but the netminder then reached up with his stick and batted the puck out of harm’s way with the tip of the blade.

He ended up making 27 saves on 30 Latvian shots on goal.

Germany defeated Latvia 4-3 in a shootout with Grubauer stopping all of Latvia’s attempts in the breakaway contest. Germany will play Canada in the quarterfinal of the tournament on Thursday.
