Germany plans to buy four additional Patriots for $1.3 billion — report

The German government is considering purchasing four additional Patriot air defense batteries at a cost of $1.3 billion, Bloomberg reported on April 19, citing officials familiar with the matter. 

The plans for the expanded order are in the early stages, with officials currently reviewing funding options, according to the report.

A spokesperson for Germany's Defense Ministry declined to comment on specific procurement projects but confirmed Berlin’s intention to improve German military capabilities.

In March, Germany announced the purchase of four Patriot systems, with the first one expected to be delivered by the end of 2025.

On April 18, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said that in addition to the Netherlands, there are several other countries ready to purchase Patriot batteries for Ukraine at any price set by a country willing to sell them.

On April 13, the German Defense Ministry announced that the country would immediately provide an additional Patriot battery to Ukraine to help deal with Russian air strikes.
