Germany interim coach Horst Hrubesch has said he is satisfied with the Olympic group stage draw pitting his team against record winners United States, Australia and Zambia or Morocco at the Paris Games' women's tournament.

Germany won gold in 2016, after three bronze at previous Games, but failed to qualify for the last Games 2021 in Tokyo before returning again for Paris.

"I am very satisfied as far as the draw is concerned. It should be a group that is doable for us," Hrubesch said of the team's opponents in Group B after Wednesday night's draw.

"With Australia you know what to expect, they will surely play physical. And we also know with the US what we will be up against."

The US team has won a record four Olympic golds, plus a silver and a bronze, from the previous seven editions. Australia came fourth at the 2021 Games and at last year's World Cup it co-hosted with New Zealand.

Group A consists of hosts France, 2021 gold medallists Canada, Colombia and New Zealand.

World Cup winners Spain are in Group C along with 2011 world champions and 2012 Olympic silver medallists Japan, twice bronze medallists Brazil and Nigeria or South Africa.

The top two finishers from each group and the two best third-placed teams advance into the quarter-finals.
