During her official trip to Ukraine, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock visited one of the country’s largest thermal power plants, which has been destroyed by Russian air strikes, Deutsche Welle reported o May 21.

During the visit, she highlighted that Germany has raised around $1 billion in recent months to provide additional support for Ukrainian air defenses.

“The work continues to ensure that Ukrainians can lead an independent life in the future,” said Baerbock.

“At the same time, this initiative also protects the security of EU countries from Russian aggression.”

The minister reiterated Germany’s support for Ukraine and added that Europe as a whole needs to help stop Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

“In his imperial madness, Putin wanted to capture Ukraine but instead has firmly bonded it with Europe,” Baerbock continues.

“Our destiny as Europeans has never been so closely linked with the fate of Ukraine. Ukraine, with great determination, defends its freedom and thus fights for the freedom of all of us. Ukraine's accession to the EU is a necessary geopolitical consequence of Russia's aggressive war, which violates international law.”
