German Economy Minister Robert Habeck has called for a rapid end to ongoing traindrivers' strikes that are shutting down virtually the entire German rail network.

"With all respect, I no longer have any sympathy for this," Habeck told the Berlin daily Tagesspiegel. "This is about millions of commuters who have to get to work and large amounts of goods that our economy and so also the country urgently needs."

The pay strike should not be permitted to continue at the expense of passengers and the economy, he said, after the GDL drivers' union said it planned to shut down passenger traffic on Tuesday once more.
