German Defense Ministry seeks over $4 billion in additional military aid for Kyiv – Bild

The German Defense Ministry has requested the government for an additional €3.8 billion ($4.14 billion) in military aid for Ukraine, the Bild newspaper reported on May 18.

Berlin has already allocated €7.1 billion ($7.73 billion) in aid to Kyiv this year to finance its direct military purchases from German industry and the Bundeswehr’s repeated orders of weapons delivered to the Ukrainian Armed Forces to effectively defend itself against Russian troops.

According to Bild, the ministry has informed the government of the need for the additional funding, which is expected to be submitted to parliament for approval in June. The funding was also discussed between Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on May 15.

The Finance Ministry reportedly supports the request.

The Defense Ministry has also budgeted a record amount of €15 billion ($16.35 billion) to help the war-torn country in 2025, Bild wrote, citing sources.
