Gerard Butler has been hospitalised in Los Angeles following a motorcycle crash, with TMZ reporting that the actor was riding the vehicle in Los Angeles when he was cut off by a car.

A source close to Butler told the site: "Someone called 911, paramedics came and took Gerard to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injuries. Lucky for him... no broken bones... just cuts and bruises."

While the crash initially seemed like the latest strange curse to affect the release of Butler's heavily-delayed and vaguely distasteful weather thriller Geostorm, TMZ reports that Butler will be well enough to continue promotion of the film, which is released next week.

Butler has a history of hospitalisations, revealing in 2016 that he "could barely walk" following injuries sustained while filming the action sequel London Has Fallen, broke bones in his neck on the set of 2013's Olympus Has Fallen, and was trapped underwater after being beaten by a succession of waves during shooting of his surfing drama Chasing Mavericks.

"There are always those risks and they hopefully become stories but when you do an action movie, you sign on for that," he told the Daily Record in 2013. "You sign up for the fact that you're going to get a few grazes and a few bruises along the way."
