Georgia man dead from drowning at West Point Lake, according to sheriff’s office

TROUP COUNTY, Ga. (WRBL) — A Cobb County man died after investigators say he fell off his boat and drowned at West Point Lake.

On March 5 at about 4:45 p.m., Troup County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a call about a man who never returned home after going to fish on March 4.

Deputies found the man’s truck and boat trailer at 1000 Seminole Road. A search began for his boat.

The boat was later found unoccupied and anchored in a boat slip at Highland Marina. The Department of Natural Resources and the Corp of Engineers began assisting in the search.

At about 7:30 p.m., the man’s body was recovered from the water. He was pronounced dead and later identified as 60-year-old Lorenzo Reed.

The sheriff’s office says there were no witnesses, but investigators believe Reed fell off his boat and drowned.
