Georgetown commit and viral dunking star breaks Allen Iverson's high school scoring record

Mac McClung’s in-game dunks have made him a viral sensation as a high schooler, and those splashy dunks helped him beat the scoring record of a basketball legend.

McClung scored 41 points for Gate City on Wednesday, breaking the Virginia High School League single-season scoring record held by an old guy named Allen Iverson, according to the Washington Post. The guy who held the state record before Iverson? Moses Malone. Iverson set the record with 948 points in 1993. McClung, whose highlights have been viewed more than a million times on YouTube, can add to his record because Gate City won its Region 2D first-round playoff game on Wednesday night. McClung is committed to play at Georgetown, where Iverson played two seasons before becoming the No. 1 pick of the NBA draft.

The record didn’t fall on a reverse dunk, but on a 3-pointer from the top of the key.
