Country music legend George Strait continued his long-standing support for American military personnel during a recent stop in Columbus at Buckeye Country Superfest.

Through Strait's partnership with the Military Warriors Support Foundation, Jonathan Sultan, a retired U.S. Army specialist from Tacoma, Washington, was presented with a "life-changing gift" at the festival: a mortgage-free home.

According to the foundation, Sultan, who served from 2006 to 2008, was chosen for the donation from a pool of applicants.

Through the foundation's Homes4WoundedHeroes program, veterans are presented with a mortgage-free home in addition to mentorship and support, including assistance with home repairs, for three years.

George Strait and the George Strait Foundation have worked with MWSF to present homes to combat-wounded veterans and Gold Star families across 20 states for the past eleven years. In total, 105 homes have been donated through the partnership.

During his performance at Buckeye Country Superfest, George Strait took a moment from his performance to honor and recognize the sacrifices made by combat-wounded veterans and Gold Star spouses. Sultan was brought on stage, where he was presented with the keys to his new mortgage-free home.

"Seeing everybody standing up and cheering and understanding the military and how it works in protecting our freedom is amazing," said Ken Eakes, MWSF executive director. "To be there around all these folks that appreciate America so much makes you understand how much people care about our military. It's something this country still supports and understands why it's so important for our freedom."

Strait also has a personal connection to the military, having served in the U.S. Army himself.

"Military Warriors Support Foundation is thankful for our partnership with George Strait and for him allowing us to honor our heroes in this way," said CEO and founder Leroy Sisco, a retired U.S. Army lieutenant general.
