George Springer's first grade teacher delivered cookies before Astros 100th win

Houston Astros outfielder George Springer had a special delivery waiting for him when he arrived to Fenway Park on Friday.

Springer’s former first grade teacher from his hometown of New Britain, Connecticut, made the drive to hand-deliver a batch of homemade cookies.

We just hope Springer actually got to enjoy one, because we’re sure that batch didn’t last through batting practice once his teammates caught a glance.

The gesture was a nice welcome home and a definite nod to a former student who’s done well. We’re sure she heard all about Springer’s aspirations as a child, whether he was focused on baseball at that time or something else. To see him now is confirmation that he took her lessons seriously and followed his dreams.

The meeting was a rare opportunity for Springer to reflect on his younger years. During the season, the New England native only gets to visit his home area when the Astros’ schedule allows.

This trip to Boston has definitely been special, and not just for his teacher’s kind gesture.

With their win on Friday night, the Astros reached 100 wins for just the second time in franchise history. That success comes on top of Houston clinching the AL West title, and home field at least through the ALDS.

Speaking of which, if Houston stays the No. 2 seed, it’s possible this weekend’s four-game series in Boston will be extended to include the ALDS. That would also require the Red Sox winning the AL East, which they can do with a win or a Yankees loss on Saturday or Sunday. If that’s the case, Springer’s next trip to Boston would come next weekend, and it could bring with it a chance for Houston to advance to its first LCS since 2005.

With or without another delivery of baked goods, that sounds pretty good to us.
