George Saunders wins $20,000 short-story prize

NEW YORK (AP) — George Saunders' acclaimed story collection "Tenth of December" has won a $20,000 prize for short fiction.

Saunders is known for his dark humor and class consciousness. He won the 10th annual Story Prize. The award's sponsors announced it Wednesday night.

The two runners-up were Andrea Barrett's "Archangel" and Rebecca Lee's "Bobcat." The finalists each received $5,000.

Previous winners of the Story Prize include Tobias Wolff and Mary Gordon.
