George Michael to speak after illness

LONDON (AP) — George Michael 's publicist says he plans to make a statement Friday after his long hospital stay in Austria.

Michael plans to speak outside his London home in the Highgate neighborhood.

The former front man for the pop group "Wham" had been hospitalized late last month after canceling a performance in the Austrian capital.

His doctors say he was suffering from severe pneumonia.

The illness forced Michael to cancel an extensive tour.
