New George Michael song released almost 3 years after his death

With the three year anniversary of his death approaching, we just got brand new George Michael music.

A new Michael single, "This Is How (We Want You To Get High)," was posthumously released Wednesday after originally being written in 2012, with finishing touches put on it in 2015 during Michael's final recording sessions, Rolling Stone reports. It's the first new original Michael music in seven years, Rolling Stone notes, although in 2017, a new version of his song "Fantasy" also got a posthumous release.

This comes ahead of the release of Last Christmas, the new Paul Feig romantic comedy that uses Michael's music throughout and stars Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding, with the posthumous song set to appear on the film's soundtrack.

"This new track we proudly send as his gift to you this season to bring you all love and festive joy...Whoever you worship...Whoever you love...," Michael's family and manager said of the new song in a statement to Variety.

Michael died on Christmas 2016, but according to Last Christmas co-writer Emma Thompson, he gave the film his blessing during its development, with Thompson describing him as "the loveliest guy you could imagine." Ahead of the film hitting theaters on Nov. 8, the song is available on YouTube.
