The 53-year-old singer split with the Texan art dealer in 2009 after 13 years together. He has endured a turbulent time since, with a number of high profile incidents scuppering his comeback ambitions, including an 8 week jail term for crashing his Range Rover after smoking cannabis back in 2010.

“George and Kenny are back spending time together again and it’s an exciting time for those of us who have been so worried over the last few years,” a chum of George told The Sun.

“There have been some really dark periods for George, especially during the time apart from Kenny.

When he was with him, there always seemed to be something keeping him on the straight and narrow.

“It was never straightforward but Kenny is the love of his life and is really good for him, so this is very good news.”

Pals also believe George’s long-awaited comeback is also more likely to happen if his relationship with Kenny lasts.

The friend explained: “There has been a lot of false starts with George’s career over the last few years.

“He keeps on getting close to doing something again, but simply hasn’t been ready. There’s been a lot going on for him.

George and 58-year-old Kenny met in 1996, and broke up in 2009 – although George famously didn’t confirm their split until two years later on the eve of a tour.

“In truth Kenny and I haven’t been together for two and a half years,” he admitted at the time. “I love him very much. This man has brought me a lot of joy and pain.”

The Careless Whisper singer once admitted that without Kenny’s support suicide could have been a “very strong possibility”. When he was hospitalised for substance abuse in Vienna back in 2011, Kenny was by his side, despite their split.
