From Town & Country

George H. W. Bush, who died on Friday, November 30 at the age of 94, left behind a towering political legacy—he was the last World War II veteran to serve in the White House, a member of Congress, director of the CIA, ambassador to the UN and envoy to China, two-term Vice President, and, of course, the 41st President.

He also raised five children with his wife of 73 years, Barbara Bush. As patriarch, he presided over an expanding clan of 14 grandchildren and even more great grandchildren.

At the late president's funeral services this week, his grandchildren publicly honored his legacy. Jenna Bush Hager, Lauren Bush Lauren, and Ashley Bush gave readings at the state funeral; and at the Houston service, six of the granddaughters gave readings, while seven grandsons served as pallbearers. One grandson, George P. Bush, also delivered a eulogy at that second service.

Here, we've created a quick guide to all fourteen of the 41st president's grandchildren.

Barbara Pierce Bush, now 37, has pursued a career in the nonprofit sector. She cofounded leadership development organization Global Health Corps in 2008, which operates in Rwanda, Burundi, Malawi, Uganda, and Zambia, in addition to several cities stateside. In October 2018, Barbara wed screenwriter Craig Coyne in an intimate ceremony at the family compound in Kennebunkport, Maine. George H. W. Bush was able to attend.

Around the time of her wedding, Barbara shared that she had rushed to get married so her grandfather could be there, and that she and her fiancé had spent time with him in Maine that summer. "It was just us three—quiet and beautiful," Barbara said of their summer together. "I would read to him. While he napped, Craig and I would go on walks, then dress my grandfather up and take him out for martinis and oysters.”

Jenna Bush Hager, also 37, chose a career in journalism. She's currently a co-host for The Today Show, a correspondent for NBC News, and an editor-at-large for Southern Living magazine. Jenna married Henry Hager, who worked in the Department of Commerce (and was an assistant in George W. Bush's White House before that) in 2008. The couple have two daughters together, Mila and Poppy.

In a post on Instagram the day after her grandfather's death, Hager revealed that she'd spoken to him about the afterlife. He was looking forward to seeing his mother and Robin, the three-year-old daughter he lost in 1953.

Jenna gave the second reading at George H.W. Bush's state funeral on Wednesday, reading from Revelation 21:1-4 and 23-25.

George Prescott Bush, 42, has officially entered the political arena. In 2014, he was elected Texas Land Commissioner, and was recently re-elected for his second term. With his wife, former law school classmate Amanda Williams, he has two young sons, Prescott and John.

Noelle Bush, 41, has struggled to find her footing. Her father has been candid about her ongoing issues with drug abuse. "As a father, I have felt the heartbreak of drug abuse," Jeb Bush wrote on Medium in 2016. "I never expected to see my precious daughter in jail. It wasn’t easy, and it became very public when I was governor of Florida, making things even more difficult for Noelle. She went through hell, so did her mom, and so did I."

John Ellis "Jeb" Bush, 34, currently runs a real estate firm, Bush Realty, LLC, and serves as a Managing Partner of Jeb Bush & Associates, LLC, which provides business consulting services. During his father's 2015 presidential primary run, Jeb Jr. served as a surrogate for the candidate on the campaign trail. With his wife, Sandra, he's currently raising two young children, Georgia and Vivian.

Lauren Bush Lauren, 34, founded the nonprofit FEED in 2007, an organization that raises money to fight hunger by selling socially and environmentally sustainable products. With her husband David Lauren, son of designer Ralph Lauren, she has two children, Max Walker and James.

Lauren posted a moving tribute to her grandfather today on Instagram, sharing that he had written her a letter at the time of her birth. "It's a funny thing," Bush wrote to his infant granddaughter. "when you get older, even if you have an exciting life surrounded by interesting people and having a chance to meet all the world's leaders—even with all that—what counts is family and love."

Along with her sister Ashley, Lauren gave a reading at her grandfather's state funeral on Wednesday. The pair read Isaiah 60:1-5 and 18-20.

Pierce Bush, 32, is the CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star, the organization's Dallas outpost. He married Sarahbeth Melton in March of 2018.

Ashley Bush, 29, chose to pursue a career in the film industry. According to her IMDb page, she's produced, directed, and written numerous shorts. In December 2017, her sister Lauren posted on Instagram about Ashely's engagement to fellow filmmaker Julian LeFevre.

Ashley spoke on Today with her cousin Marshall about her last memories with her grandfather. "I spent thanksgiving with him, holding his hand and singing hymns," she said. "He was singing at the table. I think my most recent memories are really just cuddling up in bed next to him and feeling his love until the very, very end."

Marshall Lloyd, 32, worked on George W. Bush's re-election campaign during school breaks in 2004. She married former Naval officer (and fellow University of Virginia alumni) Nick Rossi in 2015.

Monday morning, Marshall spoke to Today about her grandfather's passing. "I know he’s back with our grandmother and our aunt Robin, so I’m happy he’s happy," she said. Marshall was there when he died, and shared his last moments. "It was incredibly peaceful and sweet, she said. "A bunch of our family and best family friends were there. Everyone was touching him and holding him, and we just wanted to make sure that he knew we loved him as much as he loved us, and making sure he wasn’t alone."

When asked to speak more about Bush's reunion with his late daughter Robin, she had this to say: "His favorite thing to do was to be with family and to hug and to make sure that you knew how much he loved you. So I think we’re just very happy that [Robin] now gets to experience that which, you know, she did not for a very long time."

Charles Walker, 28, has served in the Marine Corps. In the spring of 2016, he received some notoriety for posting a controversial, anti-gun control message on Instagram.

Dorothy "Doro" Bush had two children with her first husband, William LeBlond, and two more with her current spouse, Bobby Koch.

Sam LeBlond, 34, has worked as a beer distributor in the D.C. area, among other jobs. He wed Lee Bobbitt, a legislative assistant in the Senate, in 2016.

Nancy Ellis "Ellie" LeBlond Sosa, 32, works for a Boston-based healthcare organization, and is a physical trainer in her spare time. She married Nick Sosa in 2014.

Robert Koch, 25, has kept a low profile.

Georgia Grace "Gigi" Koch, 22, is currently in college at the University of Southern California. According to her LinkedIn profile, she spent the summer of 2017 interning for the House Majority Whip—a clue that she might want to work in politics.
