George Floyd protests: Trump says US will designate Antifa a terrorist organisation

Donald Trump has said the US will designate Antifa a 'terrorist organisation' after another night of nationwide protests following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

Mr Trump had earlier on Sunday called the protesters "ANTIFA led anarchists" as he sought to quell trouble across the US.

Curfews have already been put in place in more than 25 cities across America as protests continue over the death of George Floyd.

Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia and Miami are among the major US cities that have been placed under some form of restriction.

Mr Floyd died on Monday in Minnesota after a police officer put his knee on Mr Floyd's neck for more than eight minutes. The officer was arrested on Friday and charged with third-degree murder.

But the arrest has done little to quell protests across the country. Most have been peaceful. But a few have erupted in violence.

The National Guard has been deployed in the states of Minnesota and Atlanta, as well as the city of Los Angeles, as authorities scramble to contain protests that have descended into violence in some areas.

In Washington DC, Donald Trump warned protesters that they will be met with "vicious dogs" if they scale the White House fence, as America braces for another night of violent demonstrations.

The US president has put the army on alert amid public anger over the death of Mr Floyd, saying troops could be put on the ground "very quickly". Mr Trump also faces accusations of inciting racial violence as he appeared to call on his supporters to counter-protest outside the White House.
