Watch: George Clooney turned down $35m for one day of work

George Clooney has revealed he once turned down $35 million (£29.8m) for one day’s work.

The actor has explained in a new interview with The Guardian that he said no to the mammoth payday because the job was filming an advert for an airline linked to a country he described as “questionable at times”.

Clooney, who is the husband of human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, said: “I was offered $35m for one day’s work for an airline commercial, but I talked to Amal about it and we decided it’s not worth it.

“It was [associated with] a country that, although it’s an ally, is questionable at times, and so I thought: ‘Well, if it takes a minute’s sleep away from me, it’s not worth it.’”

Although he may have refused that particular advertising opportunity, Clooney has been the face of Nespresso for many years and even added adverts for bread firm Warburtons to his CV this year.

He donated his fee for the work to the Clooney Foundation For Justice, which he founded with his wife.

The ER star is among a number of A-list stars who have appeared in ads for the baking company, with the likes of Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone previously fronting campaigns.

Clooney, who celebrated his 60th birthday in May, has been married to Amal since 2014 and the pair share four-year-old twins Alexander and Ella.

In the interview, he went on to say that despite their busy careers they do not rely on nannies for round-the-clock childcare.

The father-of-two explained it was “important” for his spouse to be involved, before adding: “We have a nanny four days a week and the rest of the time it’s just us.”
