George Brett promised a Kauffman Stadium urinal if Royals (& Chiefs) sales tax passes

What do you get for the man who has everything?

For Hall of Famer George Brett, that’d be a urinal. And Brett doesn’t have his eye on just any urinal. He wants one from Kauffman Stadium once it’s demolished.

You may be asking how this bit of information came to light and, well, that’s a good question.

Brett, the greatest player in Royals history, spoke with KCTV and was asked how he’ll feel to see Kauffman Stadium demolished.

“I’ll probably break down a little bit when I see the bulldozers going in there,” Brett said. “And the thing about me, I grew up in locker rooms my whole life, and when I built this house, I have a urinal. In fact, we have five in this house.

“I’m going to exchange one and I want to get a urinal out of (the) Royals’ stadium and put it in my house. That’s the only thing I want. I don’t want a seat.”

Brett said he tried to get a urinal from Yankee Stadium when it was torn down in 2008. But then-vice president of media relations Arthur Richman was unable to procure the, um, keepsake.

“The one that Babe Ruth went to the bathroom in, the one that Lou Gehrig, the one that Reggie (Jackson) — I want one of those in my house, and he couldn’t get it for me,” Brett said.

“But how great would that be to have Babe Ruth’s urinal in your house right now? So I’m gonna get one. If they demolish that stadium, I promise you, I’m gonna go there in the middle of the night with the guy that built this house. I’m gonna say, ‘C’mon and figure out how to get one of these things out of here.’”

Kauffman Stadium will be wiped from the face of the earth if voters in Jackson County on April 2 agree to a 3/8th-cent sales tax lasting 40 years.

The tax would be used to help build a new Royals stadium in the Crossroads District. The Chiefs would raze The K and have plans for a reimagined Truman Sports Complex and GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium.

The Committee To Keep The Chiefs and Royals in Jackson County promised Brett that he could have his pick of the urinals if the tax passes.

There’s just one tiny detail about that promise from the side asking voters to approve the tax. They don’t actually have the authority to say who gets to take home a urinal*.

*A question to ponder: Would a free urinal be consider trickle-down economics?

Jackson County owns Kauffman Stadium, and Brett would have to get permission from county executive Frank White, who was Brett’s Royals teammate for years.

That is, unless Brett decides to make a late-night visit to the stadium.
