Ray Winstone has revealed how he kept his role in Guy Ritchie's new TV series The Gentlemen under wraps.

While the Netflix show's cast, including The White Lotus star Theo James and Skins actress Kaya Scodelario, was announced back in 2022, it wasn't until the trailer dropped in January 2024 that Winstone's involvement was revealed.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy ahead of The Gentlemen's release today (March 7), Winstone explained how he was able to keep his role as career criminal Bobby Glass a secret for almost two years.

"It wasn't difficult to keep it under wraps because I'm not a grass. I'd come in for a day or two days. It was almost like doing a job but it weren't if you know what I mean, because it was a bit disjointed, you know," he shared.

"Then you would get a report about what was happening in the next episode and you had the script you could read."

Winstone continued: "But my world was in them four walls in the prison so I didn't always look at what was going on on the outside. That was just being lazy really. But you kind of got the gist of it.

"And when you go home, my wife never asks me what I'm doing anyway. She don't. We don't talk about work. It's just a different life."

The eight-part crime drama, based on Ritchie's 2019 film of the same name, centres around Theo James' character Eddie Horniman. He inherits a large estate after his father's sudden death, only to discover it's part of a successful cannabis empire.

While he initially tries to extricate his family from their clutches, Eddie soon gets drawn into the world of criminality and begins to find a taste for it.

The Gentleman also stars Joely Richardson (Lady Chatterley's Lover), Giancarlo Esposito (Better Call Saul) and Vinnie Jones.

The Gentlemen is now streaming on Netflix.
