General Darby Challenge coming to Fort Smith

FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — The Fort Smith Museum of History announced an inaugural race on Thursday to honor the city’s history.

The “Fort Smith General Darby Challenge” is a tribute to General William Darby, a Fort Smith native who served in World War II.

There are three races: a half marathon, 5K and 10k. You can run walk or “ruck” it, run with a weighted vest.

“General Darby was the handpicked commander of what was then Darby’s Rangers. Darby’s Rangers was the unit that continued after World War II and became the U.S. Army Rangers so he’s considered to be the founding father of the U.S. Army Rangers,” Caroline Spier with the Fort Smith Museum of History said.

The race is on April 28th. Tickets range from $45 to $60 and the proceeds will benefit the museum and the Darby House.
