General Cable buys Brazilian maker of automotive ignition wiring

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (AP) -- Automotive parts maker General Cable Corp. said on Thursday that it has bought a Brazilian maker of ignition wiring for cars.

General Cable makes the same parts for the U.S. market. It said its new acquisition, Delphia Produtos Eletricos Ltda. in Brazil, is another step in making its business more global. Delphia had 2011 revenue of about $20 million.

General Cable said Delphia will continue to operate under that name.

Shares of General Cable rose $1.74, or 6.5 percent, to close at $28.72.
