GEHS Teacher receives recognition for FFA CTE

GREENBRIER, WV (WVNS) – A Greenbrier East high school teacher walked into an unexpected surprise at an assembly on Thursday, March 14, 2024.

Emily Dunkle believed she was just attending a normal meeting for her Future Farmers of America meeting on Thursday morning. Instead, it was something very different and rewarding.

The West Virginia Department of Education, in partnership with the West Virginia Association for Career and Technical Education, presented Dunkle with the West Virginia CTE New Teacher of the Year award.

The award recognizes the highly accomplished instructor for her brilliant contributions to career technical education.

Dunkle was surprised by her students, fellow teachers and her family.

“I am passionate about the Agriculture industry, so getting to share that with my students it is amazing and I am so grateful for this opportunity,” said Dunkle

Dunkle said she believes agriculture provides students with employment opportunities, long-term goals, and creates future generations of farmers and agricultural professionals.

“What Emily is actually doing is she’s taking the skill sets she’s learned in her education and her upbringing and teaching her students to be those agriculture advocates for the state.”
