Proceedings halted after murder suspect leaves Chester County courtroom

CHESTER COUNTY, S.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Robin Furr, Gene Roger’s ex-wife took the stand to speak about her ex-husband’s character saying he became a God-fearing man after he joined a church and quit drinking.

But that wasn’t the case for her relationship with the defendant, Scott. Furr testified she and Scott never had a good relationship and he was why she was divorced. She says Scott and her oldest son Travis didn’t get along.

“I would’ve never left him if it wasn’t for our children,” Furr said.

Furr told the court the defendant called her after the murders — something he had never done. Furr says she asked Scott for details about the murders, and Scott told her the back door and bedroom window were busted.

He also told her that his grandparents were shot in the back of the head with a shotgun — execution style. But witnesses testified this week that the defendant told them it was a 9mm gun.

“Me and my sister took a mop and we measured it and we cut it off and we put it in sliding glass door, where it couldn’t be opened, and when I went out there with Paul that same piece of wood was still there…no broken windows,” Furr told prosecutors.

Earlier this week, authorities testified that the back door was locked when they arrived on the scene in 2020.

A forensic account also revealed that out of the nearly $90,000 Roger’s gave the defendant in January 2020 — over $7,500 was spent on adult entertainment between February 18-25 2020.

He also transferred more than $7,000 to friends in a short amount of time.  By June 8, 2020,  the defendant had $3 in his account.

Paul Rogers, Gene’s brother, says his brother told him he was giving Scott hundreds of thousands of dollars as “part of his inheritance” and it would help him to start his business.

Paul says his mother, Billie, told him she was worried about the security-style items, like night vision goggles, and different guns, that Scott had sent to the home “for the business”.

Proceedings halted for nearly an hour Friday morning because the defendant got sick and needed the restroom. A nurse checked him out before he opted to return to the detention center. He waived his right to be present during witness testimony on Friday.
