Gas prices drop 4 cents in RI ahead of holiday

Average cost of gas in RI falls 4 cents, to $3.56 per gallon, ahead of Fourth of July holiday

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) -- Gas prices have fallen 4 cents in Rhode Island ahead of the Fourth of July holiday.

The latest survey by AAA Southern New England released Monday says the average cost of a gallon of self-serve, regular in the state is $3.56.

That's 8 cents higher than the national per-gallon average of $3.48.

Rhode Islanders were paying an average of $3.47 a gallon a year ago at this time.

The AAA survey found prices ranged from a low of $3.45 to a high of $3.79.
