Gas leak evacuates buildings in Northwest DC

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — DC Fire and EMS said there was a gas leak in Northwest D.C. Tuesday evening.

Gas was leaking outside around a meter of a 1-story commercial building in the 5900 block Georgia Ave.

Multiple buildings were evacuated as crews from Washington Gas were requested to help.

DC Fire and EMS said in a post that it was continuing to take meter readings and ventilate the building.

Crews were still working to isolate the leak as of 8 p.m., according to DC Fire and EMS.

In a final update around 10:18 p.m., DC Fire and EMS said Washington Gas was able to control the leak and all readings returned to normal inside the buildings.
