Route 61 reopened after gas leak

SCHUYLKILL COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU)—Officials have announced that Route 61 has reopened after a gas leak in New Castle Township Tuesday morning.

According to an update from state police, utility crews were working on the scene Wednesday morning to get the gas line repaired.

UGI’s Principal Communications Leader John Mason said final repairs were underway and crews aimed to be done around noon.

Both directions of Route 61 have reopened between Frackville and St. Clair.
